Five Taiwan Shochu cocktails to make at home
Taiwan Shochu with ginger ale
Taiwan Shochu and ginger ale are a perfect match. The aroma of the shochu blends with the spice of the ginger ale, and every sip is finely balanced. Cold and slightly spicy, it is a great drink for cooling off in summer.
• Ingredients: 2 oz Taiwan Shochu, 4 oz ginger ale, thin slices of fresh ginger, ice
• Method: Put ice in a tall glass, pour in the Taiwan Shochu, then slowly pour in the ginger ale. Garnish with the ginger slices and stir gently.
Taiwan Shochu with Calpis
Taiwan Shochu with sweet-and-sour Calpis, mixed 1:1, is the best shochu combination there is.
• Ingredients: 2 oz Taiwan Shochu, 2 oz Calpis, ice
• Method: Put ice in a glass, pour in the Taiwan Shochu, then gently pour in the Calpis.
Taiwan Shochu with green tea
Taiwan's favorite hand-shaken drink is Yakult green tea; whatever we drink, we add green tea to it. So what about Taiwan Shochu with green tea? It is bittersweet, with a mellow sweetness that slowly comes through, and makes a good grown-up mixed drink.
• Ingredients: 2 oz Taiwan Shochu, 4 oz green tea, honey (optional), ice
• Method: Put ice in a tall glass, pour in the Taiwan Shochu, then pour in the green tea. Add a little honey to taste if you like.
Taiwan Shochu with honey vinegar and oats
The sweet and sour honey vinegar brings out the rice aroma of the Taiwan Shochu, and the chewy oats add texture. The result is a cocktail full of Taiwanese flavor.
• Ingredients: 2 oz Taiwan Shochu, 3 oz honey vinegar, whole oats
• Method: Pour in the Taiwan Shochu, then the honey vinegar, and stir well. Finish by sprinkling the oats on top for texture.
Taiwan Shochu with lemon sparkling water
Anyone who likes cocktails will know the highball. The golden ratio is 1:4. You can also chill the glass in the refrigerator before mixing, so you can leave out the ice without affecting the flavor.
• Ingredients: 2 oz Taiwan Shochu, 4 oz lemon-flavored sparkling water, a slice of lemon
• Method: Put ice in a glass, pour in the Taiwan Shochu, then gently pour in the lemon sparkling water. Garnish with the slice of lemon. Save these recipes and treat your friends the next time they come over.
